Helpful Spring-Cleaning tips for your Makeup and Skin Care Drawer

Spring Cleaning can be a little overwhelming when you think of all the things you need to add to your list like the house, the car, your wardrobe and maybe even a cottage. One area you won’t want to miss is your make up and skin care drawer!

Harmful bacteria can live on your surfaces from touching products with your fingers so you want to make sure to clean your products to help remove the bacteria before it gets on your face and causes issues like acne and dermatitis!

Step One- spray Non-Expired makeup with at least 70%+ alcohol to kill off bacteria.

Step Two- Wash all makeup brushes, hair brushes,  tweezers, eyelash curlers and other washable tools in anti-microbial dish soap. Dry thoroughly!

Step Three- Check your skin care to make sure you are not using expired products like Sunscreen and Products with active ingredients that have a shelf life from date of opening.

If any of your products contain a foul smell, toss them as that is a sure sign of bacteria.

When bacteria is present, it can be accompanied by an odour so you know it’s time to say goodbye to that one for sure!

And… if you have never washed your makeup brushes…run don’t walk and do this right now! Here is the how to:

Soak hairs in dish soap and water is a glass or mug for a few minutes. Rub with fingers to remove all buildup. Add more soap until clean.

Rinse thoroughly and place hair back in place to keep the shape of your brush and lay on a towel to dry.

If you want to treat yourself to an amazing new brush, try the illumalift brush! It’s Vegan, Cruelty-free and made of metal that is corrosion resistant treated so you can wash it without worrying about ruing the handle. It can be used to apply foundations, concealer and even your masks!
