Under Eye Dark Circles Common Causes & Solutions

Dark circles under the eyes can be caused my many varying factors. Today we are looking at whether your dark circles need further investigating by your medical doctor or if an over the counter solution will suffice.

Let’s talk about what dark circles actually are.

We know that when the skin is thin around the eyes, which happens naturally as we age or can be a genetic trait, or the blood vessels under the eyes are swollen, this is what we are actually seeing under the skin.

A common cause is actually fatigue or in more severe cases insomnia. A simple solution in this case is to get more sleep and for some people will result in having less dark circles.

Another factor that contributes to dark circles is allergies. When the puffiness of the skin is evident, it can draw even more attention to the area. You can take a preventative approach and use an antihistamine to reduce swelling if you know you will be exposed to your allergy culprits or treat as needed when it happens with allergy medication.

Think of swelling as inflammation and you can guess that by adding some cool compresses to the area will help, especially when the swelling is caused by any sort of trauma like crying.

People with darker skin tones that have areas under the eye that are considerably darker than their skin tone can have a condition called Periorbital Hyperpigmentation which is a true darkening of skin pigment in the area.

In any of these cases, there are also skincare products that can contribute to the resolve of these dark circles over time.

Let’s get to some over the counter solutions that will help!

You should include, serums or creams that contain eye firming and volume reducing ingredients on a regular and consistent skin routine for best results.

Ingredients like Orchid Stem Cells ( Offer anti-aging, firmness, upper eyes de-puffing, elastin & collagen boost. Provides a broad rejuvenating effect such as restoring firmness & elasticity of the skin & redefining the contouring of the jawline & eye area (volume reduction) Provides a drooping eye lifting effect helping to open the eye for a refreshed look. Reduces appearance of fine wrinkles, improves dull and rough skin)

and  Hyaluronic Acid  (One of the most powerful moisturizing agents available.Smaller molecules enhance skin penetration providing smoothness and softening to the skin. Excellent anti-wrinkle effects, soothes irritated skin.) that are capable of giving visible and lasting results. Keeping the eye area hydrated will also make the eyes appear less dull and dark.

Try this multi-use serum to elevate your daily skin care routine and help fight the effects of dark circles under you eyes with a gentle but effective serum. Daily Quench +

If none of the above conditions seem to apply to you, checking with your family doctor to see if conditions like hypothyroidism or other possible genetic or medical factors could be contributing to the cause.

In any case, makeup is a great solution if you want an instant result! Using concealers will help camouflage and reduce the appearance of darkness around the eye area. The secret to keeping the eye area light and bright is by using a shade of concealer or foundation that is a couple tones lighter than your skin tone and keeping the product application light and airy so as not make the area look “cakey”.

For an instant and long term result, try illumalift Brightening Cream in shade light for skin tones fair to dark tan and for darker skin tones try illumalift Brightening Cream-shade dark. This multi-use brightener and skin care product is loaded with skin firming and cell rejuvenating ingredients to help the eye area stay firm and youthful while creating an instant brightening effect.
